Driving Danger: DUI In Arizona

A DUI is never to be taken lightly. We often see celebrities driving off the rails (not literally) when faced with an internal conflict. They resort to drugs or drinks and in few hours TMZ has caught them being pulled over by cops. Arizona in particular is very staunch with its DUI laws. Here is all you need to know about DUI’s in Arizona.

Zero Tolerance State

Arizona is known to be a “zero tolerance state,” you may wonder what that means? Well the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level should be below 0.08%. However, if a police officer feels you are impaired with respect to driving, they may pull you over and charge you with a DUI. This discretion applies to a limit of 0.05%.
If you’re wondering what 0.08% of BAC looks like, it’s 2 drinks for a person weighing 160 pounds. If you are unsure of the physical limit of your drinks, then the best would be to stay away from alcohol or take a cab home. Better safe than sorry!

4 levels of DUIs

Namely, Standard DUI, Extreme DUI, Super Extreme Dui and Aggravated DUI.
As with any punishment, each of these charges are more extreme than the next and will cost you a higher fine and longer jail time. Arizona driving schools are the best place to go for guidance on the law.

Ignition Interlock

This is a system installed in your car which requires you to use pass a BAC test before you can light the ignition and be off. This system is usually installed after committing any DUI offense in the state.
Your driving school in Arizona will guide you on these systems and their verified companies/sellers.

Can you get into trouble even if you’re not driving?

Surprisingly, yes! Most citizens don’t know this, but even if you are sitting in the passenger seat with the keys in your possession you can get into trouble. The logic behind this law is that you should not be in control of the vehicle while under the influence.
So if you think you can spend some time in your car on your own in order to relieve some of the “buzz” think again. It’s advisable to chill out in the back seat of your car instead.
Still apprehensive? Stay clear of driving or stay clear of drinking and all will be good. If you require any assistance regarding the Arizona state laws for DUIs or require a thorough defensive driving lessons sign up with Jacob’s Driving School by calling (602) 297-1000
