Drive with Care – Defensive Driving Tips To Become A Better Driver!

Aggressive driving is a pertinent concern in Arizona. As 2007’s Miss Arizona will tell you, traffic safety “is something that we should all care about”. The MCC graduate, like many other’s lost someone close due to reckless and careless driving. Unlike others, the 2007 Miss Arizona pageant winner does everything necessary to drive this important lesson home. Driving with care saves lives.

Gruesome State Of Affairs on Roads and Highways of Arizona

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, there were more crashes on Arizona’s roads and highways. Those accidents claimed more lives than previous years! Furthermore, it was found out that:

313 killed weren’t using a seat belt, helmet, or child safety harness
300 killed had crashes due to exceeding speed limit or driving fast under undesirable conditions
295 killed was due to drunk driving related crashes

Besides the high number of motor accident related fatalities, there were also more crashes and injuries as well in 2015! Here are the numbers:

Total Crashes: 116,609 (up from 109,664)
Total Injuries: 53,554 (up from 50,988)

Numbers Don’t Lie

Road safety starts with you. Have you dealt with aggressive drivers, uncaring of the rules and regulations of Arizona’s traffic department? Do you experience road rage?

Do your part!

Watching Your Speed

Just as second-hand smoke, driving in high speeds has killed millions. And will kill millions more if we don’t slow down and watch the speed limit!

The State of Arizona has one of the highest speed limits in the country. Only 4 states allow speeds faster than Arizona’s maximum 75 miles per hour. This limit applies to freeway stretches outside of urbanized areas. This means any speed over 85 mph on a freeway or 20 mph (over speed limit) in an urban area will be considered excessive and subjected to a ticket.

So, pay attention to posted speed limits and alter according to driving environment.

Eliminate Distractions

Did you know distracted driving is the new drunk driving?

It’s easy to assume that teenagers still learning to drive are prone to distractions more than adults. However, it was found in a 2013 AT&T study that commuters driving to and from work are more likely to text compared to teens.

According to Jacob’s Driving School, distractions while driving aren’t just limited to using cell phones and texting.

Changing the radio, loud music, or simply talking to a passenger in the car can also take attention off the road. There are some drivers who even eat, read, or apply their makeup while on the road!

The safety of everyone inside and outside a moving vehicle is in your hands. How well are you playing your part to promote safe driving on the roads of Arizona? Sign up for a defensive driving class by Jacob’s Driving School in Phoenix!
