Road Rage Control – How to Keep Your Cool when Driving

Road rage and aggressive driving are two terms that are often used interchangeably. However, road rage is far more dangerous and is sometimes considered a deliberate and criminal attempt to hurt someone on the road.

Road rage is becoming an increasing problem in the US. Increasingly congested roads are also a source of frustration for drivers that leads to road rage.

Here’s what you can do to manage road rage:

Don’t take bad driving personally

If someone is driving badly, then it is their own problem, not yours. If you let others make you angry, it only means that you are letting them control you.

There is absolutely no reason to get carried away and worked up because someone is driving poorly. Maintain your distance from such drivers.

Be compassionate

There could be thousands of reason why someone is driving badly. Maybe they’re just having a bad day. Empathize. Give them the benefit of doubt. That will help you manage your road rage.

Think about the consequences

Always think about the consequences of road rage. Road rage is one of biggest reasons for road accidents and two of every three fatalities occur because of road rage. Ask yourself: is going after a bad driver worth it?  Think about your loved ones waiting for you at home, or anything else that will make you calm.

Having the consequences in mind will help you focus on driving responsibly, rather than losing it.

Practice positive affirmations

If you have a serious anger management issue, try positive affirmations. Go with:
· “I choose my own emotions”
· “I get calmer after every yard”
· “Driving makes me calm”

Although these affirmations look overly simple, they work wonders. Also visualize yourself in calm and peaceful spot when you start experiencing road rage.

Take defensive driving courses

Invest some time and money to learn the art of defensive driving. In this course, you will not only learn how to drive safely and follow regulations, you will learn about how to deal with the psychological aspects of the driving, like road rage.
