1. Breaking and Accelerating

Stomping on the brake or the gas pedal only shows that you’re not confident enough behind the wheel. You need to demonstrate to your examiner that you can smoothly accelerate from a stop and keep an even speed while driving. Though your examiner won’t hold it against you if you brake in case of an emergency, display your ease in pacing and braking.

2. Green Traffic Lights

You may be paying attention to the traffic lights, but that doesn’t mean other drivers are as well. Use your driver’s instincts when going through a green light and check your side mirrors and crossing intersections carefully before accelerating.

No one else is aware that you’re taking a test, so you need to take responsibility for your own safety as well as that of your examiner in case someone else goes flying through the lane.

3. Indicator Usage

You will lose points if you don’t use your indicator. But your examiner will more likely not take points off if you overuse them for your own safety. Even if you’re not sure, use the indicators when shifting lanes or making turns. Remember; as with everything in life, even with driving, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

4. Use Your Instincts

In case of emergency, you may ask your examiner for advice, but be prepared because you may have to take the test again. Unless you’re in jeopardy, asking for advice only shows that you’re not confident enough yet to make your own decisions while driving on an open road.

Keep in mind that you will not always have a person alongside you while driving. You need to make important decisions now and rely on your own knowledge.

5. Use a Roadworthy Car

Only use a car that is stable enough to be road-worthy. If the car hasn’t passed state inspection or is obviously a hazard to yourself and other drivers, this may mark your case as an immediate fail.

Always make preparations in advance so you have the right vehicle for the task. Also, have your car cleaned out to show your dedication to being a responsible and careful driver.
